Unlike the chaos at Choo, the atmosphere was chill at the D&G sample sale in the MePa. The pickings were random – pieces from past seasons. There was a real mix of stuff from T-shirts to gold taffeta cocktail dresses to hot pink/red see-through plastic rain coats. Pricing was so-so depending on the item. And you really had to look hard to find something worth buying.

The best deals were on dresses ($99.99). That is if you’re lucky enough to spot a great one in your size (there were a few). One customer walked out with a fabulous gown that originally retailed for four figures. Other shoppers were digging into boxes looking for swimsuits ($29.99). A signature silk satin pencil skirt ($69.99) caught my eye. But, overall, the goods weren’t great.

Our in-house label whore, Larry, also stopped in and had the same opinion. Here’s his take on the men’s stuff:
I rummaged through the men’s section and found a fantastic Made In Italy D&G sweater at only $69.99!! However, other than that, there wasn’t much else. A limited selection of men’s merchandise and a lot of it was of the now-defunct D&G brand. There were lots of jeans to be had, but not too many pants. There was some selection of suits, but at $600 I wasn’t buying. Not too many blazers as well, but a lot of Dolce & Gabbana and D&G short sleeve and long sleeve tees ($59.99) that were not worth the money. Also, there was a small selection of dress shirts and other sweaters, but the one I bought was the only one worth taking.

One of the sale organizers told me that they won’t be restocking… but he says they’ll likely slash prices on the last day of the sale – this Sunday.
