The NL Collective in the Meatpacking District carries little-known and up-and-coming designers, including Japanese designer, Divka, Project Runway alum, David Chum’s pieces (Selahdor), Australian based line, Purple Ginger, and more. The showroom is having a sale through this Friday. Fashionable Femme Jen wandered in on Monday and gives us her report:
Stepping into the NL Collective sample sale is like being privileged enough to scour through the “cool girl’s” closet . Five rolling racks of clothing, each individually tagged with round price stickers, are on offer. Featured designers include Purple Ginger (trendy black pieces), Amorette (feminine dresses), Divka (leather and leather embellished pieces), Gene (fall/winter styles), Selahdor (peplum), and Xuan-Thu Nguyen (accessories and assorted styles). A variety of sizes are available, though size 8 seems to have the best selection.
Stand outs include the Amorette Darkling cap sleeve dress for $67.15, an Amorette asymmetric ruffle peach long dress for $74.80, a pair of Purple Ginger black parachute pants for $47.70, a Divka brown leather skirt for $360, and a Gene Black wool jacket for $360. A couple Xuan-Thu Nguyen handbags were also available.
Using TJ Maxx as a baseline for comparison, I feel that this sale is quite comparable, offering an array of styles across all seasons. Altogether, the sale has the look and feel of a closet—including clothes that need ironing, a mix of blah, standard and a couple stand-out pieces, and a wide range of trends, colors and cuts. I have to say—there’s something missing in its appeal. While there are some decent deals to be had, this sale is more of a browse-between-cocktails excursion and certainly not a drop everything event.
