eM Productions kicks off its annual summer sample sale today featuring quite a number of labels, including ACE & JIG, the French ready-to-wear line, IRO, the Australian-based Something Else, the Los Angeles based brand, Wren and more. I stopped into the showroom yesterday for their friends & family preview. I must say, it’s a huge space filled with lots of merchandise (all women’s stuff).
Let me get started with the best bargain here… pieces from ACE & JIG are just $30. The items are stuffed in boxes in the middle of the room. Not well presented and you really had to dig to find something you liked. I mentioned this to the folks in the showroom and they finally started hanging the clothes on a rack (third image below). The label offers yarn-dyed woven fabrics in a variety of colorways. There are shorts, tank tops, beach pants, dresses and more. The label can be found at Steven Alan, Brooklyn’s Bird boutiques, Anthropologie, Madewell to name a few stores.
Next up is Something Else (designed by Australian Natalie Wood – no relation to the actress that I know of). Many of the graphics and prints on the pieces really caught my eye. Apparently, the designer collaborates with painters, illustrators and graphic designers. Many of the dresses were around $100 or under, tops and pants from $65-$80.
Now onto IRO… the contemporary French label has quite a following here in the U.S. Many tops were $80, pants $90, dresses $95 and a cotton tunic jacket was priced at $100. Towards the front of the room, you’ll find pieces from Wren where most tops were going for $50 and dresses at $75 (image above). Also worth mentioning is Seneca Rising (L-A based design house) which recently went out-of-business. Those items are in boxes – dig in and you’ll find cotton knits from $10-$40.
Where/When: 636 Broadway, Suite 720 (@ Bleecker). July 18-20. Daily (10-7p).
