The Issey Miyake sample sale was in full swing this morning at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea. The shoppers here were clearly fans of the Japanese designer’s slim, architecturally-constructed creations. Most of them appeared to be regulars at this event. Many of them pulled from racks and piled their haul in a corner near one of the strategically placed mirrors in the large place to try on their finds.
Everything is 70% off the retail price. First off, let me go to the men’s selection (very limited, just two racks of plain & striped shirts ($119-$149), pants, blazers and coats (a black trench men’s coat is now $704, was $2,345). There was actually quite a few men shopping this morning.
Now onto women’s merchandise. Hanging on racks along the wall near the cash registers were quite a number of pieces from the main Issey Miyake spring/summer 2012 collection (inspired by the flower’s life). There were silk pastel colored pieces that went perfectly with the subtle beige items from this season. Here’s examples of what I spotted: A flower bud tunic is now $342 (was $1,140), a flap suit top is now $276 (was $920), the flap flap flap coat is now $509 (was $1,695), a pastel blue 3/4 sleeved blazer is now $467 (was $1,555), a skirt /top is now $234 (was $780), the bloom solid black silk pant is now $209 (was $695), the Airy beige coat is now $570 (was $1,900). Better deals can be had with pieces from Pleats Please – and that’s what most people were grabbing. Here’s what I spotted: an accordion Pleats Please black dress is now $127 (was $425), a pair of basic Pleats Please is now $129 ($430), a scarf is now $63 (was $210). If you’re hoping to snag some deals at this sale, you’d better hurry. Merchandise was already getting picked over an hour into the sale this morning. Sale ends at 4pm today.
Where/When: 123 W. 18th St, 4th Floor. One Day Only, Tuesday, August 14th (9-4p). Credit Card Payments Only.

DID THEY HAVE ANY BAO BAO BAGS?
Claire – the only bag I spotted was a white canvas tote.
