Finding the room to the Haute Hippie sample sale in the Garment District can be a bit confusing. There are signs that lead you to the basement level. It’s best to enter through the freight entrance of the building and walk down a flight of stairs.
The two-level space has a makeshift dressing room. Inside, you’ll find racks of signature Haute Hippie bohemian pieces. The best deals to be had are the items hanging on racks on the main floor where there are actual samples mixed in with overstock.
There were plenty of cocktail dresses, jackets, knits and pieces for fall. Here’s the pricing: Dresses ($65 for plain, $100 for embellished), sweaters start at $80 for basic and go up to $125 for novelty, pants are $70, leather is $150, and tees are $25. On the upper level are stock pieces that are 30 to 40 percent off the retail price. Still a bit pricey – I spotted a leather jacket on sale for $597 (was $995).
Where/When: 336 W. 37th St., nr. Eighth Ave., ground fl (basement). August 8 to 12. Mon-Fri (11-6p).
