Giorgio Armani Women’s Sample Sale

Giorgio Armani Women's Sample Sale

Over in the Meatpacking District, the scene was very calm at the Giorgio Armani women’s sample sale. No line outside, no crowds inside. In fact, it was sadly empty when I stopped in with Fashionable Femme Jen after work. Before sitting down for a drink in the area, we decided to check out the offerings at this sale. As I mentioned earlier, third party vendor, Designer Expo NYC, is hosting the sale through Sunday.  The merchandise hung on racks and were organized by style (blazers/jackets, tops, pants, skirts, dresses and so on). Pricing was simple and fairly clear (80% off retail) with the list tacked up on the walls.

As we looked through the racks, we noticed that many of the items appeared to be overstock from previous seasons.  There were signature Armani Collection blazers priced at $599 (orig. $1,750 to $2,495). All tops are $99 regardless of the retail price. Surprising, since since some of the blouses retailed for much more than others on the same rack – such as a bustier (which caught Jen’s eye) that originally went for $1,020 vs. a knit top that retailed at $210. Dresses were tagged at $599. While there really weren’t a lot of dresses; one style – a satin strapless hour-glass shaped frock – stood out (was $2,895).  A sheer organza lilac blouse also caught our eye (now $99, was $2,075) as did an overcoat made of luxurious silk fabric (now $599, was $4,175).  Other than that, most of the apparel was a bit too conservative for either of us.  Jen did mention that the blazer (pictured above) would look great on her mother. In the back, were great deals on lingerie (bras) going for $20 each (3 for $50) and a box of white thongs for $5/each.  Depending on the turnout, sale organizers will likely slash prices on the last day of the sale.

Where/When: Designer Expo NYC, 407 West 13th St., (b/w 9th Ave & Washington). Sept 20 to 23rd; Daily (11-7p).

Everyone was at the Dolce sale plus I don’t think Armani is as good for women as they are for men, except for Armani Prive.

Lets be real – Armani is pretty much your mothers clothes. I live in the neighborhood and won’t be stopping by. Hey Sally any news on the next Alexander Wang sample sale, usually in August but nothing this summer

KateM – you’re so right… but we were curious about the Armani sale. Since everyone else was at The Row & Dolce, we thought we’d check it out. I did hope that I might find some basic work clothes.. but alas, no! As for Alexander Wang, Jen and I were just talking about that last night. I have had no word on a sample sale… If anyone knows about one, please let us know.

The sale was shockingly representative of my mom’s closet, though I’m not sure she’d be shelling out thousands per jacket. I was a little disappointed at the lack of ‘fun’ represented in the selection–and especially for the price points! I’m amazed that anyone would shell out $700+ full price for the super wide leg jeans…

For fans of Armani or those updating their mother’s closet, we just heard they’re slashing prices on this last day. Tops are now $79, blazers $349, accessories are $29.99 and so on…
