Our new writer, Fashionable Femme Jen, has certainly been busy this week. We commend her enthusiasm! Her next stop: the the eco-friendly, high-fashion Brazilian boutique, Osklen, in Soho. Jen was pretty impressed with the colorful offerings:
With summer sales in full force, the Osklen flagship has many of its Soho neighbors beat, boasting reductions up to 70% (and 80% for sample/runway pieces). Stepping into Osklen is like entering a vibrant oasis of style and relaxation. Taking on the aura of its Rio de Janeiro influence, Osklen fuses organic charm with upbeat pops of color and a diverse, yet well-curated selection of wares.
Every style and season is represented in the vast offering of clothing, shoes and accessories for both men and women. Four private dressing rooms and a team of sales associates are on hand for your convenience. Three rooms of merchandise (two women’s and one men’s) almost guarantees there is something for everyone (that is anyone who’s a size S, M or L). I didn’t see any XS or XL and sizes M and L have more options. Pricing signage is posted visibly around the store and nearly everything is marked down 70%.
For women, clothing styles include short wool dresses and cropped wool jackets, casual loungewear and tanks, soft flowing bottoms and structured pieces. An array of colors, including pinks and beiges, reds and blues, and blacks, browns and gold line the racks in solids, stripes, floral and abstract patterns. An extensive shoe selection featuring sandals, sneakers, pumps, boots, and booties of different styles and silhouettes is spread throughout the rooms as well as an assortment of winter accessories, handbags and beach totes are incorporated into the mix.
Women’s jeans, pants, skirts and blouses up to $359 original cost are discounted to $79. Women’s pants, skirts and blouses originally $360 and up are priced at $99. Dresses originally priced up to $450 are now $99. Dresses retailing at more than $459 will set you back $189. Leggings are $49. Items of note are a sleeveless shirt-dress for $99 (orig $447), an indigo cotton tank dress for $99 (orig. $159), and simple brown/black suede pumps for $79 (orig. $447).
Men’s offerings also cover quite a range of styles and colors with jeans, sweaters, polo shirts, button downs, board shorts, assorted tops and tees, high and low top sneakers and sandals. Items of note are the one-pocket tee in faded rhubarb at $37 (orig. $79), white graphic tees at $37 (orig $79), board shorts in bold colors and prints at $57 (orig. $150 to $180) and men’s “tenis” style sneakers in orange at $95 (orig. $397 to $447).
If you’re ready for vacation and looking for a mini-departure to paradise—with a side of retail bliss—head to the Osklen sample sale. The energy is invigorating. Using TJ Maxx as my baseline of comparison (for selection and quality), I must say the Osklen sale offers a superior selection of top-quality discounted merchandise. TJ Maxx will always be there—for a different day.
