Over the weekend, Larry Label Whore rummaged through the merchandise at the Barneys Warehouse Sale inside the Metropolitan Pavilion on West 18th Street in Chelsea. As he reports, it wasn’t as bad as he had expected.
“While other sites have been complaining how terrible the Barneys Warehouse Sale is this year, it makes me wonder if they actually went to the sale. I stopped in on Friday and found that it actually wasn’t that bad. It definitely wasn’t like it used to be, but there are items worth taking a look at.
When I first got into the space I was surprised to see how big it was and the amount of people there. It’s mostly men’s goods but surprisingly, there is a major section for women.
There were sections for “Blue Star” items that meant they were an extra 75% off the discounted price. Of course, I went to these first.
There was a major section of Levi’s jeans for 75% off of $79 meaning you’ll only have to pay $19.75 for them. I also spotted a Gant by Michael Bastian zip-up for 75% off of $89 (with the additional markdown that’s $22.25). Of course, there’s a lot of Barneys-brand merch.
In the orange ticket sections, which are priced as is, I found pants and shirty by designers like Brioni, Zegna, Armani, Michael Kors, and Canali. There was also a major section for jackets and suits. I spotted some really nice jackets by Canali, but a beautiful Burberry London trench caught my eye. Originally $2,200, it was down to over $900…still way too pricey.
The section of men’s shoes was mostly Barneys-brand, but there were a couple of Dries van Noten pairs. The steal of the shoes was some great Sorel winter boots for $79.
I then stopped by to look through the women’s shoes. There were some great designers there like Saint Laurent, YSL, Louboutin, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Fendi, but you really have to look since some I saw were damaged. Prices for some of those ranged from $199-$399. As I said, inspect the stuff before you shell out any money. I didn’t get to thoroughly look through the women’s clothes, but I did spot a nice Haider Ackermann dress.
On my way out, I quickly browsed through the front half of the space which had more men’s shirts and ties. It also had leather bags and wallets for men and women, but nothing really caught my eye.
All in all, I think it’s worth stopping by ONLY if you’re in the area. I wouldn’t make a special trip for it. The sale wasn’t as bad as some bloggers reported. However, as I’ve said in the past, stick to the online Barneys Warehouse Sale site or go to the end of season Barneys sale before the merch gets shipped out. There are much more options at reasonable prices. Happy Shopping!”
