Montblanc Friends & Family Sale: Pens Start at $225

Montblanc Friends & Family Sale

The Montblanc Friends & Family sale is for those who take their writing instruments seriously.  The pens at this sale will make the act of handwriting a pleasure.

Even with the markdown, items here will cost you a pretty penny.  Displayed on a long table against a wall were different styles of pens.  They included the Bohème Arabesque Azur fountain pen $465 (orig. $1,385) and a classic Bohème fountain pen for $225 (orig. $670).  There were a few selection of the Meisterstück and StarWalker collection tagged at just under $500.

Down that table were other merchandise such as sunglasses for under $100 (orig. $300), rings starting at $90 and cuff links under $200.

Hanging on a rack were leather belts ($100-$400) and on a table were bags (a duffle bag was on sale for $276 (orig. $920).

A selection of watches were on a table in the middle of the space.  The Timewalker Automatic stainless steel watch with black dial was going for $2,600 (orig. $3,600).  More elaborate watches in a case were on sale for $12,000.

In the very back of the space were day planners or organizers, which I thought were outdated in these times where most of us have smartphones.

While Larry Label Whore thought the prices too steep at the last sale, I can understand why some would shell out hundreds of dollars to make writing an enjoyable undertaking.

Where/When:  260 Fifth Avenue (b/w 28th & 29Th Streets), NY, NY; Thru Mar 12; Tues (9am-5pm).

With technology these days, I don’t know when was the last time I actually wrote something longform like a letter. I only use pens for writing checks and maybe one line on a note. Definitely not worth spending over $200.

  2. jk98 says:

Ok, that is probably one of the most immature comments I’ve read thus far. LLW, how old are you and do you live with your parents or something? I have a 14 yr old who writes lovely thank you notes, he hates it because he is a punk teen but people always comment about how thoughtful he is. Manners go a very long way in life, like when you’re trying to get into a sample sale. I have yet to be turned away at any door. I don’t beg, I don’t act like I’m entitled and I always say, thank you. I’m also going to say using a really nice Elsa Peretti pen sure beats writing with a bic flair.

  3. Larry Label Whore says:

I don’t think it has anything to do with manners. I am almost positive I represent most young people today.

  4. jk98 says:

really? i hope not because if you represent the 20 somethings, it’s sad, sad society. 20 somethings with no couth? big old yuck. i’m assuming you live with mommy and daddy in nj or something like that and they probably cook and clean for you and that’s why you have this above all attitude. you’re probably single too and your defense says you’re above it. do you say thank you to mommy for anything or go about with your miserable existence? my son says thank you to me for anything and everything but don’t get me wrong, he’s a punk too. i’m also going to assume with that know it all attitude you get turned away from private sales because door people can smell a nasty little snot. nothing wrong with being nice and a smile goes a very long way. humility? i have friends in your age group (who don’t live with mommy) and they write nice notes on paper or cards because it’s a genuine and thoughtful thing to do. your last write up on montblanc was so vicious and snarky. why go and be a rag? seriously, when you go to sales, do you mock the prices if anything is above 20 dollars? dude, your attitude is way immature and you sound like a major wanker.

  5. Keiko says:

hi sally, did they check flyers? I had one, lost it…wondering if i should print one out or save paper and just show up? thanks

    • SampleSally says:

Hi Keiko – They didn’t check the flyer when I went on Monday… BUT the sale is over. It ended yesterday. Sorry you missed it. They’ll have another one…

      • Keiko says:

oh darn. you’re right. i had it written in my agenda buuuut I thought we were Tuesday ….for some reason. ladida. thanks!

  6. Mary says:

LLH – spending $200 on a pen is not worse than $50 on a candle or $500 on shoes. All more than you need to, but i would not judge anyone how they chose to spend their money on small luxuries. I would rather do that than for an expensive dinner but again that’s all personal choces and yes, writing with a Montblanc pen is awesome.

I remember you posted nasty comments last time around too. Save it to yourself.

  7. jk98 says:

hooray to mary! seriously, can’t this whiny kid be thankful of being able to go to a sample sale instead of buying retail? it’s a privilege to be able to buy an item at a fraction of the cost. llw, your commentaries are really a turn off because there’s rarely a positive. if you can’t play nice, stick to shopping with mommy at woodbury.

  8. jk98 says:

ok people, let’s just ignore llw because he’s kinda a db. on a very positive note, the outnet is having a fab clearance sale and on that site, there’s something for everyone.

  9. Elle says:

LLW, you are wrong to say that most young people these days share the same opinion as you. My friend and I are in our early 20s and my friend is a Mont Blanc fanatic. If it’s anything to you, I still send personalized handwritten cards and letters. Besides, the line to the sale was primarily young adults and the line went down the block. If that doesn’t prove that people in their 20s aren’t interested in the brand, I don’t know what will. Although you may not have any appreciation for quality craftsmanship, there are others who do and you shouldn’t represent speak for our generation. Having class is definitely not something you can put a price on.

  10. jk98 says:

llw is ridiculous in speaking for his generation. i’m glad that people in his age group aren’t as annoying as him. he’s so immature that i bet he gets off on people thinking he’s an imbecile because we’re talking about him. i don’t think he’s advanced enough to think we consider him in the same category as kim kardashian.
