Through Saturday, the Judith Ripka sample sale is being held at a penthouse suite at the Doubletee on Lexington near 51st Street. The offerings are mostly 50-percent off the retail price, although there was a small selection at 70-percent off.

The pieces included 18 and 14 karat gold as well as sterling silver. Last night, most shoppers crowded the cases where the sterling silver pieces were on display (probably because this was the most affordable). The silver bangles at $238 (were $475) were popular, as were the charm necklaces that started at $150 (were $300).
From there, it gets pricier despite the discount. An 18k gold bangle caught my eye (now tagged at $2,500, retailed for $5,000) and an elegant 18K Canary ring for $1,500 (was $3,000). There were also a limited selection of handbags on sale for $250 and up…

I left empty handed as did two women who I shared an elevator with…they were both saying how they expected better deals and were disappointed with the discounts. I agreed with them.
Where/When: Doubletree Metopolitan New York, 569 Lexington Ave., nr. 51st St.; Oct 13 to 15; Thurs (10-8p), Fri (10-6p), Sat (10-5p).
