iPad Madness: Gadget Lovers Continue to Line Up

The line above was outside the Apple store on the Upper West Side. No surprise!  People are still lining up hoping to get their hands on a second-generation iPad.  Yesterday, one of our spies stood outside this same store (for two hours) before they opened.  Lucky for him, he managed to walk out with an iPad 2 16 GB (WiFi + Verizon 3G).  Our spy also told us that two Russian guys standing in front of him were talking about how they would buy theirs and sell them in the black market over there for more than 2-times what they paid for it here.  And two other customers behind him (from France) were doing the same!  A WABC reporter yesterday was outside the Apple store on Fifth Avenue and videotaped some of the profiting scalpers.

This morning, an Apple store manager apparently came out to tell those waiting in line that they didn’t have any  iPad 2s in stock.  But that didn’t stop all these gadget lovers from sticking it out.

Apple is reportedly trying to slow down the havoc surrounding the second generation  iPad. A report from AppleInsider claims that the company has come out with a new policy with iPad 2 shipments, requiring stores to hold on to the latest shipments in store for up to a day before actually releasing them for sale.  So if you’re still hunting for an iPad 2 at your local Apple Store and are told they’re “expecting a shipment tomorrow morning,” you might want to show up nice and early the next day.
