The sample sale season has certainly kicked into high gear… Today, Paris-brand Zadig & Voltaire begins its 4-day sample sale at 260 Fifth Avenue. Yesterday evening, I attended the preview with a friend who’s a big fan of the rock-and-roll brand. The atmosphere was chill last night and I loved the classic tunes they were playing… (think “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire).
There’s a variety of merchandise (60-80% off retail) from apparel to accessories, including shoes, handbags, belts and more for women, men and the little ones. Most of the pieces were from the spring/summer collection. Although, right near the door were a few racks of outerwear (jackets $150, wool coats at $250, blazers $190).
I was interested in finding a leather jacket ($300) and/or pants ($200). But the selection was really limited and nothing caught my eye. I spotted only a handful of spring colored leather pieces. And my friend found a pair of butter-soft blush-colored leather pants she saw at the last sample sale.
There was more of a selection on knits and sweaters; basic tops were going for $60 and sweaters tagged from $90 to $120. Cashmere pieces were more pricey at $70 for tanks, dresses were $170 and cardigans at $190. Mixed in we’re the brand’s signature bedazzled pieces as were sequined dresses ($200) and tops/tanks ($150). Great deals can be had on bottoms (pants/ denim were $55).
The men’s stuff was organized on the left side of the space as you walked in. There were lots, including blazers ($300), button-ups ($75), cotton sweaters ($75), knitwear ($95), cashmere pieces ($160), denims/khakis ($60) and tees ($38).
The limited amount of footwear can be found in the back on a table and includes flats at $110, boots at $150, sequined heels/sandals at $100. Handbags, wallets and belts ($60) were on display next to the cash registers. There were totes for $130, bowling bags at $170, bubble leather bags $220 and clutches $100. Price lists were clearly posted on walls and racks throughout the space. But, at times, we still had to ask a helpful staffer to tell us what something cost. The lists weren’t always clear on some things…
