Slim Pickings at Proenza Schouler

Yesterday’s press preview almost wiped out the Proenza Schouler sale. And this morning what ever was left has probably been picked through by PS fans.  I literally had 15 minutes to look first thing this morning and it was madness – the morning rush was in full force.  By 9:30am, there was already a line at the cash register.  Everything was going fast.

Here’s what was left:  lots of tanks starting at $20 for the solids and $25 for stripes.  I also spotted silk tops going for $175 (plain black with cap sleeves) to $335 for a silk shirt blouse. There were random deals such as a yellow leather mesh short sleeve top for $75. On the more expensive end were leather dresses ($1191 for a 3-toned, black taupe and creme sleeveless frock), leather mesh tank for $520 and leopard print top ($1728).

There were no more shoes to be had.  A staffer told me that yesterday’s shoppers snapped up all the footwear in a matter of hours.  Only a couple of styles for handbags were available this morning at $330 for small bags and $550 for large shoulder bag.  As for jewelry, there were two styles left (see photo) at $335 and $490.

By the looks this morning, there may not be much left by the end of the day.  Sale ends tomorrow.

Where/When: 495 Broadway, nr. Broome St., eighth fl.; July 21 to 22 W–Th (9–6).

did you get anything Sally? Trying to decide if this is worth my time this evening…

    • Hi P – I had just a few minutes. Had to rush to work! I liked a dress and top but I just didn’t have time to wait in line. Artsy Anna also went this morning and she says there wasn’t much left. The stuff I liked were a bit pricey. If you’re a fan of PS, it might be worth checking out if it’s not out of the way.

Does anyone know how to get into these previews the day before? I managed to talk my way into the Tory Burch one but sometimes I just don’t have the energy.

Thediva — generally I think you either have to work at the company or know someone who does, who will put your name on a list.

Sally, thanks for the advice! It’s on my way home but I guess I’ll just see how tired I am after work…sounds really picked over according to all reports.

I heard a woman at the Halston sale say she was able to come to the sale on MONDAY, a day early. Just like Proenza.

That’s it, I’m just going to go to all sales of interest a day before they say they start. It’s worth a shot.

Deme – I agree. You should just stop by on the day before the sale starts and take your chances. I did that with the DVF sale. I had stopped by the week before and spoke to the security guard and he told me that DVF was the following week and to stop by. I saw a line on the Monday before the sale started on Tuesday and I just walked right in. He remembered me and let me in. Sometimes if it’s possible make friends with the security guards and they will let you in if you bat your lashes and pout enough (just kidding). But, with Tory Burch I was complaining to the guy at clothingline that I have been going there for years and I get no VIP treatment (lol) when the big sales come. I told them that I supported them when they had mavi, true religion, evisu, Salt, free people basically all their sales. Then he whispered to me that the friends and family was on Monday and that I was welcome to stop by after noon. You know I was there with bells and whistles on and got me some goodies that were gone by the time the door was opened to the public. So, from now on when I see a posting for the sales and it starts on say Wednesday I will do a drive by or walk by the day before and if they say no then at least I tried.

Yeah when I was leaving Halston on Tuesday and picking up my bag from the bag check, I saw a lady come in who had a huge white bag full of Proenza stuff — I should have just headed over then!

I don’t know though, considering I picked up three pieces at Halston and even managed to buy a beautiful pair of black silk pants at Proenza yesterday (total surprise, since the sale was devastated by the time I got there at 10 mins to close), I hate to imagine the damage I would have done to my bank account if I’d actually gotten to the sales during the previews. Silver lining of the only getting the scraps is all the money you save!

  • I went by this morning and the selection was actually still pretty good–got some pieces I had had my eye on in stores, and there was an additional 25% off! Needless to say one of those brown briefcase clutches came home with me…
