NYC Sample Sales – Aloha Rag, Theory, Louboutin, etc…

Martin Margiela Boots - On Sale
Margiela Boots now $321 (orig. $1,070)

We’re a bit late getting out our sales roundup for New York City… Take a look at the list below of a few notable ones taking place this week:

Let’s start with the Aloha Rag semi-annual sample sale which kicks off this Thursday.  Shoppers can get up to 85% off new & old stock from current and previous seasons as well as samples from the AR’s house brand.  While sale prices are never as good as we hope at previous sales, we still like to check out this sale since the store features great labels such as Saint Laurent, Balmain, Martin Margiela, Celine and more… Where/When:  545 Greenwich Street, 2A, NY, NY; May 16-19; Daily (12pm-6pm).

Unless you’re on the list, the Christian Louboutin sample sale is one of the most difficult sales to get into.  Here the highly-sought after heels are usually marked as low as $200. Already we’re hearing of shoppers lined up today (Tuesday).  If you’re not on the list, you can try your luck on the last day of the sale – Friday afternoon when they’ve let the public inside in the past. Where/When:  306 West 38th Street (between 8th and 9th), NY, NY; May 13-May 17; Mon-Thurs (9am-6pm), Fri (9am-1pm).

Two different locations for getting your hands on bargain pieces from Theory.  One is downtown, inside Chelsea Market where women’s merchandise from both Theyskens’ Theory and Theory is marked down up to 60% off the original retail price. See our photos before they opened the doors this morning - here.  And the other is taking place at Clothingline where shoppers can get deals on spring stock merchandise for women & men (limited selection for the gents), includes footwear and handbags.  Where/When: Chelsea Market, 75 Ninth Ave, NY, NY; May 14-19; Tues-Sat (10am-7pm), Sun (10am-5pm)  ; Clothingline, 261 W. 36th Street, 2nd floor, NY, NY; May 14-19; Tues-Wed (10am-7pm), Thurs (11am-8pm), Fri (11am-8pm), Sat & Sun (11am-5pm).

    1. Petter – If you’re asking about Aloha Rag, they accept credit cards. As far as the other sales, most of them accept credit cards. If not, they’ll have a sign that says CASH ONLY at the sale event.

        1. Petter – Just checked with the Aloha Rag folks and they accept both Cash & Credit Cards. Let us know if you go to the sale… and what you find!

  1. I’ve never been to the AR sale. Is it worth it Sally? Also, why is theory holding two sales?

    1. Hi jk – Depending on how much you’re willing to spend, AR has some really nice pieces from high-end designers (see the list above in the AR flyer). However, deals tend to be on the 60% off range so you can probably imagine how much that would be for say a Celine, Margiela or Jil Sander dress or jacket. That said, who knows what this season’s sale will be like. In addition, shoes have sometimes been a pretty good deal.

  2. AR is one of my favorite sales.
While prices are usually higher – I don’t go for the designer stuff. I head straight to the AR and AR Surplus stuff (their own label). They make the most amazing Sweat shirts ($20-30) & T Shirts ($15-20). And the AR Samples are usually the best deal. I stock up on the stuff. – but be aware that things go really fast …. and they do not restock – most of the real bargains are gone in the first couple of hours.

    1. Yes — dolce vita used to have one..what happened?
there have been some disappearing sample sales
what happened to Dolce Vita? Rebecca Taylor? Sunner? Julie Haus? See by chloe? Cynthia Steffe? Foley & Corinna?
They were some of the best

  3. Hi Sally, can I have a question. Do you have Burberry, Tory Burch, and true Religion on sale ?

    1. Lan – If you’re asking me if I sell merchandise, I DON’T. If you’re asking about whether those brands have sample sales – I know of Tory Burch at Clothingline in June. Burberry and True Religion not sure of yet. Hope this helps.

  4. I plan to attend the AR sale and the Rocksmith one as well on Friday. Hope some things are still left :(

      1. alright, looks like slim pickings! i’m sure the sale will happen when i’m in cali this summer. ugh.

  5. Aloha Rag sale was a major disappointment.
Prices are way too high & nothing great in terms of samples. I say skip it.

    1. Kate – Thank you for the heads up… I was hoping they would have some nice stuff. Do you know what the percentage for markdown was on most things?

      1. Most things were 30 – 50% off – but things start off really high so that’s not much off.

        1. Thanks, Kate! And you’re right about the discount. With such high-end designers and price tags to begin with, that’s not much of a savings.
