After a tip from a reader… I made my way to the Marc Jacobs boutique on Mercer Street after work yesterday… Summer has just started and already the store is offering 70% off its spring 2012 collection. If you catch this sale early, the selection is pretty good. Normally, handbags are rarely (if ever) placed on sale. But just an hour before closing, staffers at the store were told to put select bags on discount! Not surprisingly, the decision caused quite a stir with the customers who happen to be there.
When the sales associate informed me that some of the bags would be on sale, I had to ask again… As news was coming out, there was still confusion as to which bags. But after a few minutes, the details were sorted. A group had gathered in the store (customers and a few appeared to be friends of the SAs). Needless to say, the choice bags were snapped up such as the Benson bag in black that went for $345 (was $1,150) and a colorblock Victoria shoulder bag at $448 (was $1,495). I also spotted a Thompson bag in orange now priced at $375 (was $1,250) and a few Fluro lace clutches and iPad cases. When I left, they had quite a few Victoria calf hair totes.
As for the other stuff on sale… all spring collection clothing which was pretty well stocked. I spotted the following: a Gingham printed Sheath Dress is now $360 (was $1,200), Gingham poplin tank dress is now $450 (was $1,500), sequin tulle v-neck top at $420 (was $1,400), Daisy cotton sateen dress $285 (was $950), cotton sateen pleated skirt $183 (was $610) and a few daisy long-sleeved knit tops for $208 (was $695). Continuing on the daisy theme for shoes. There were cute comfy daisy satin slippers for $188 (was $625), metallic Mary Jane pumps for $194 (was $645) as well as some plastic flats and heels.
Where/When: Marc Jacobs boutique, 163 Mercer St. (south of Houston). Ongoing.

does marc by marcjacobs everhave sample sales? if so when ? thanks
Marc by Marc Jacobs if a diffusion line of Marc Jacobs. I don’t think they have any official sample sales. Your best bet might be to just purchase clothing from them online. Any ideas, Sally?
Hi guys – I’ve not heard of a Marc by Marc Jacobs sample sale or even on the main collection line. Your best bet is trying the store when they have sales. Also the end of season department store sales can be good, such as Saks or Barney’s. And, there’s also online. Depends on what you’re looking for.
