The sale season has begun… The first round takes place this week at high-end retailers. The Barneys pre-sale started last week where most designer collections and shoes are discounted 35% off the original retail price. I popped into the Madison Avenue store and I checked out out the designer footwear on the 4th Floor. Lots of summer shoes and sandals were markdown, including Marni sandals ($549), Miu Miu flat sandals ($422), Miu Miu wedges ($516), Lanvin wedges ($516) and flat sandals ($484). Sale goods weren’t obviously marked. A small red (marker) dot on the tag at the bottom of the shoe told you it was on sale.
At Bergdorf Goodman, the discount is 30% off shoes and 40% off clothing. Purchases there were already made available on Sunday (May 27th). As for Saks Fifth Avenue, merchandise will be made available to be picked up or shipped this Thursday (May 31st). Clothing is marked down 40% while shoes are discounted 30%.
If those numbers aren’t impressive, you can wait for the second markdowns which traditionally begin at the end of June with discounts ranging from 50% to 70% off…
