There was a steady stream of shoppers checking out the deals at the Krizia warehouse sale in the Meatpacking District Tuesday evening. Many of the takers (and there were quite a number of them who walked out with great deals) appeared to be familiar with the Italian label. The markdown on goods here is 70-90% off retail from casual sportswear to long evening gowns.
There’s merchandise for both sexes. Although there’s more on offer for the ladies than the gents. Still there were a couple of guys in the very back of the boutique looking through the racks of separates (a limited selection of shirts, pants, knits). Most men’s stuff is 85% off, except for the dwindling selection of ties which are 90% off – translating to under $10 a tie.
There was an overwhelming amount of stuff for women (apparel & accessories, including shoes). As a couple of our readers already reported, there’s a lot of pieces discounted at 90% off retail on items from previous seasons. But be prepared to spend quite some time here sifting through the merchandise.
Pricing is fairly easy and color-coded: a purple dot on a tag means you get 70% off the price; a red dot = 80% off; orange = 85% off and yellow = 90%. So look for the yellow dot if you want the best bargain. As for what I spotted, most of the shoes (many of them strappy heels) were 90% off. A few of the colorful pairs in the main room (see photo) were going for $36 (was $365). You can find more (random selection) in the back stacked on the floor. Other deals include knits which were folded near the front door – many of the items were under $50. If you looked hard enough, you’d find pieces hanging on racks for under $100 such as a silk dress for $91 (was $455). Also on offer was a grey wool dress for $167 (was $835), a black cashmere blend dress at $253 (was $1,265), a silk floral tunic at $179 (was $895), a signature cat print gauze top for $111 (was $555) and more.
Worth mentioning are the fabulous deals on cocktail dresses (one black silk number is now $154, original retail $1,540) and gowns. A long beaded gown reminiscent of the 20s was only $390 (was $3,900). My problem at this sale was the spotty sizing. Many of the pieces I liked were Italian size 40, 42 or 44 (too large for me). However, a couple of our readers in comments reported picking up some pretty good bargains. I overheard a staffer saying that they have plenty of merchandise to bring out (pretty much same stuff but different sizing) which they plan to do later this week.
