The elevator wasn’t working when I arrived at the Hayden-Harnett and the Collective Showroom sample sale Tuesday evening. I was told that the elevator stops operating after a certain hour at the end of the day. I ended up having to walk up five flights to check out the goods. Not such a fun thing to do in this heat!
The sale wasn’t as well stocked as previous sales. Handbags (large and small) were on shelves ranging in price from $90 for the Lily shoulder bag to $270 for the Trophy satchels. I also spotted the a shiny black Allen bag for $139 (was $348), the Bernardin daybag for $150 (was $425) and the Lava Tambourine bag for $99 (was $238). Besides the bags, you’ll also find cuffs at $40, small wallets for $65 and large ones going for $98. There was a limited selection of clothing, including linen and silk dresses for under $100. Silk tanks for $65. Swimsuits are $35 for tops and $30 for bottoms; one-pieces are $65. A real steal was a pair of suede Woodsen shorts for $50 (was $498). But there were only two left hanging on the rack. A few damaged goods were in boxes on the floor where I found trench coats with missing buttons for $100.
Also on offer were other labels, including handbags from Magnes Sisters and Corrente where prices ranged from under $100 to under $300. There was also jewelry from Samantha House and Kim Lyons (her stacking rings for $75 caught my eye).
Both credit cards and cash are good here with an additional 10% discount for cash payments. A staffer told me that Hayden-Harnett will be restocking with new merchandise on Wednesday. Plus, she said they will likely offer additional discounts.
