You’ll find plenty of deals, especially on accessories, at the Alexander McQueen sample sale which started Tuesday. I found a fairly calm scene at Chelsea’s Metropolitan Pavilion when I stopped in around 9:30am. Surprisingly, there was no line. Although, at first, I did think that the extremely long wait for the Sex & the City casting call next door was the queue for the sale. Thankfully, I was wrong.
You’ll get 80% off most of the merchandise. Handbags were going for $300 (A black patent leather bag caught my eye), clutches $200, wallets $100. There were great deals on shoes too! Most women & men’s shoes were under $200. The McQueen Pumas were under $100. Sandals under $200 and party shoes were just over $200. Sunglasses were $80 and belts around $100. Men’s ties were going for $40. There were racks of clothing for both men and women. I spotted some cool tops and dresses for just over $200. The tees were all $50, but none of them really grabbed me. It didn’t take long for me to find some deals: gold bracelets ($50), black paten leather wallet for $100 and sunglasses for $80. But when I went to pay, there was a major hitch, the registers began to act up. I waited 30 minutes and the registers still weren’t working. I couldn’t wait any longer so I put my purchases back.
Sale organizers had a peculiar pricing structure. If an item ended in “0″ or “5″, then you get 80% off. If an item ends in a “4″ or “9″, you take 50% off. It did get a bit confusing so I had to use my calculator.
Sales staff say they will be restocking. So I will come back Wednesday – the last day of the sale – to see if they have anything worth buying.
Where/When: Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 W. 18th St., nr. Sixth Ave.; August 4-5 T (9–7), W (9–6).

I was there at closing on the last day. They had a pretty decent amount of clothing and shoes left so I was quite surprised that they didn’t go from 80 to 85 or 90% off as most designers do who show in that space, at that price point.
Yes, I agree. When I returned to the sale that morning, I was expecting that they would be offering further discounts. I was tempted to buy the white Pumas. It was pretty subdued that last day in the morning. Did you buy anything? What did you like there?
