Today (Sunday) is the final day of the Dolce & Gabbana sample sale at the Metropolitan Pavilion on West 18th Street. Fashionable Femme Jen wanted to get one last look. She wandered in yesterday afternoon to find that pricing remained the same and, no surprise, stock was seriously low but apparently sale organizers have restocked on some things:
At 3pm Saturday, there is a steady line of 20 people waiting to enter the D&G sale outside the Metropolitan Pavilion. Curious if pricing has been reduced or if stock has depleted, I stop in for a peek. After chatting with my mom/waiting in line for 15 minutes, I enter the not-so-busy 5th floor sale area. I was wondering why there was a wait at the door… until I see the line for the fitting room. A line of about 50 shoppers with arms-full of merchandise wait their turn to try-on.
Pricing has not dropped and discounts remain at 60% to 90% off, depending on the season. Best deals can be had on items from the 2009 collection and before. Most of the women’s lingerie and clothing is severely depleted compared to even a day ago. The shoe zone holds remnants of the human tsunami that has passed over the last couple days. A bright spot may be the accessories sections, where the jewelry, hats, belts and bags have been replenished–white belts and bags are a plenty!
In the bag section, there is a variety of white crochet or crochet embellished plastic handbags and a couple small leather purses and satin clutches. Highlights include a white crochet bag with white leather trim and gold hardware for $430 after 80% discount (orig $2,150), a red w/ black polka dotted clutch for $337.50 at 70% off (orig $1,125), and a pink and black satin clutch for $268.50 at 70% off (orig $895).
At this point, Women’s clothing sizes hover in the 40-48 range and anything signature Dolce & Gabbana are long gone. I do see an abundance of chunky sweaters in “Fantasia” (aka black + white wintry pattern) for $159 (orig. $795). Also of note is a black dress with silver embellishments for $937.50 (orig. $3,125) and nude mesh thongs with pink lace for $9 (orig. $45).

I was there on the last day and there was barely anything left. I went to see if the prices were reduced even more, but I was told usually they start the sale at 50-80% off then reduce it to 60-90% by the end of it; However, this year they decided just to keep it at 60-90% throughout, which I think was a great idea since they sold a lot of merchandise. It was definitely not worth going to today, but I’m glad I made it the first day. I really regret not getting the black dress shoes and amazing crocodile wallet. I don’t know how I’ll wait a year till the next one.
That’s funny. I scored on three AMAZING belts at 90% off. I guess it depended what you were looking for…
