Escada Sample Sale is Underway in Chelsea

Escada Sample Sale - up to 90% off retail

The Escada sample sale kicked off today at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea. Our contributor Artsy Anna has been to this sale numerous times.  She was among the first people to check out the goods.  According to Anna, the deals aren’t too bad:

The first hour of the current Escada sample sale is off to a humming start. There’s no line to enter and no line to check out but the sale floor is full of eager shoppers. Discounts are generous, as in past years, with items 75-90% off the ticketed price. Signs are posted for pricing which is color-coded:  red & blue dots are 75% off; if you see a green dot you can take off 80% and yellow dots are the best discount at 90% off.

But there isn’t as much merchandise as I’m used to seeing at this sale.  I counted 22 racks of clothes where in the past I’ve seen twice that amount. The center tables are stocked with denim, shoes and handbags. Shoes are tagged at $100 (I spotted some beautiful, work-appropriate flats as well as heels) The handbags are priced as marked (mostly ranging from $250 to $350).

There really is something for everyone here. Even if you don’t think of yourself as the Escada woman, there are good basics–pencil skirts and jackets in lots of colors and party dresses for New Year’s Eve. I eyed a sequined platinum strapless frock for $399. There’s nothing super special that screamed “must have” but I was considering a very versatile cranberry tweed jacket. I had it hanging on a rack to photograph for this post when a woman swooped in and grabbed it before I could stop her!  I didn’t get the jacket but I guess I have a good eye.

Stopped by Escada today and thought it was great. The sale was well organized by size ranging from 46 to 36 and everything in between. The selection was good but definitely for the more mature ladies. The most fun and abundant were pieces labeled ‘samples’ in size 6, there you could find some unique skirts (lots of leather), tops, and dresses. Prices: 70% off all regular sizes, 75% off for ‘samples’ (read size 6), and 90% off 4 racks of damaged and slightly boring clothes. The selection is good, but the really nice stuff will still set you back a couple hundred dollars. There were some bags, two tables of shoes, and scarves.
