The Spanish label Custo Barcelona is all about vivid color with signature pieces that are silk-screened as well as embroidered with graphic and figurative designs. Through next weekend, the brand’s Soho store is hosting a sample sale with prices at $39 and under. Fashionable Femme Jen who’s a fan checked it out yesterday. Here’s her report:
A Saturday afternoon stroll through Soho unearths a sample sale at one of my favorite European labels—Custo Barcelona! Excited by the prospect of colorful collage and “Samples, $9 and up,” I quickly head to the basement of Custo’s Broome St. store to investigate. Much of the merchandise is true one-of-a-kind sample stock (big sample tag included), with pricing ranging from $9 for pants to $59 for coats.
In the back section, a tableful of women’s sample skirts and pants in all cuts (long, short, cropped, etc.) and materials (denim, velvet, corduroy, cotton, silk, polyester, etc.) are $9 each. Sizing ranges from EUR 34 to 40, however, ignore the tag and try before you buy. A pair of colorblock pants catches my eye, along with a couple cute silk skirts and a nice pair of dark blue cigarette jeans with colorful embroidery. On the funky side, there are red plaid pants with a cartoon girl embroidery and a pair of fuschia + purple + teal textured pants with a metallic sheen.
Assorted women’s tops (long and short sleeve and hoodies) in true Custo style can be had for $19 each. I spy a translucent long sleeve cream top with two stripe patches on the front and an Asian style pony print on the back (the size says 2, but it fits an XXS). A rack of brightly colored, flowery, speckled, and psychedelic dresses are priced at $39 each; coats are $59.
Men and kids items are available as well. Kids items are all $19 each. There is a super cute size 8 girl’s skirt in aqua and lime green with a cute cartoon print. Men’s sample pants 34 to 40 are priced at $9 each and long and short sleeve tops are $29 each. One men’s stand out is a pair of beige corduroy pants in size 34 with a glittery touch.
Accessories include a couple racks of purses and wallets—all $19 each—and a box of bikinis (top + bottom) for $19 each. Stand outs here are a mini u-shaped black (faux) reptile textured purse with a red + black polka dot flap, a mini brown reptile embossed square purse with a red and black feather + flower montage and a rather large cloth beach bag with a purple rope handle.
Regular pricing hovers around $100+ for dresses and $80 for tops, making this sale a must-see for fans of the brand. Especially with the holidays around the bend, this is a good opportunity to stock up on unique gifts for the whole family!

I went today. The clothes were hideous and cheaply made. For that level of tacky and garish and disposable, the prices were actually too high.
I beg to differ. Ugly or not, $9 is a pretty good price, even for “tacky and garish and disposable.” $9 is less than the cab to the bar or the first drink. A fine price, even if you wear the items only for one night. The clothes were a great bargain, just not everyone has what it takes to wear them in style.
Regards!
I will say..I went this weekend and got a few great things but I went back with a friend this monday and it was very very picked over so I think Cat saw all the leftovers and that many of the great finds were already gone.
