The latest markdowns at the Barneys Warehouse Sale brought out the crowds over the weekend to Chelsea. Women’s designer, shoes, lingerie and swimwear are now an additional 25 percent off the sale price. The gents are getting a better deal with the discount now at an extra 40 percent off designer duds, sportswear, outerwear (including leather). Men’s sportscoats, tuxedos and ties are at an additional 25 percent off. We stopped in on Saturday to find no line but a very crowded scene inside… with shoppers pawing through the racks and shoe stacks. The sale ends on Sunday… expect even more reductions.

Still not a lot of buying though. Managed to spend $300 between the wifey and me, which is a rather poor showing for 90 minutes spend looking. The check-out people were pretty bored.

Paget – I haven’t been inspired with much at the sale so I haven’t bought anything… However, the mister bought two really nice hats on the first day… since they tend to get snapped up. I’m waiting to see how far the discounts will drop this week. I’ll keep you guys posted.
Racked said that one of the SA’s told them final markdowns would be on Friday.
Sally! There is nothing in designer wear this season and the basement is horrible!!
Unfortunately for me, living on a Manhattan-sized island 600 miles from the nearest land, I have just one extended weekend to top-up my wardrobe for the coming 6 months.
I managed to spend a week in NYC this August and was disappointed at the degree of reductions… we all kept waiting for more reductions after the typical final-Friday cuts. Interestingly men’s accessories like hats etc are in great abundance this year and haven’t yet been discounted (as of 2/28). In the past they’d be at 60% off by now and the bins would be empty. The sale does seem to have less stuff this year, which could mean Barney’s (much to our disappointment) is doing a better job managing store-level inventory.
