Alexander Wang Opens Early to the Public

At 9am this morning, there were no lines, no list and no crowd at the Alexander Wang sample sale in Soho! I was told yesterday that the press preview was this morning but staffers weren’t checking names. The sales floor was busy. However, it was manageable.

I didn’t have much time to look but here’s the scoop on the goods. In the middle of the space are $25, $50 and $150 racks of random samples and overstock (dresses, tops, skirts, shorts and pants). There were also sample bins starting at $10 which already looked picked over.

Other merchandise are color coded (check out the photo below for prices).  I spotted knit drapey dresses for $80, microfiber black dresses for $200, cute short jumpers for $180, light knit sweaters and pants at $160, blazers $100, leather jackets $500, jackets with leather trim for $240 and more – much more.  As for handbags… as one reader (AJ) commented earlier this morning there are no Roccos with studs apart for one that is made of clear plastic.  One medium sized hobo in beige (simple) that caught my eye was going for $250.  The shoes are on several racks in the back and you have to ask to see them.  Flats are $150, heels at $250 and boots from $250 to $300.  Most of the sizes are 37s and 40s, but there are a few 38s and 39s.  Also on offer are T by Alexander Wang knits in boxes (tanks, tees, etc) staring at $20.

There is no dressing room so be prepared to strip down (I’d suggest wear a skirt and leggings) to try anything on out in the open.  There were plenty of women doing that this morning.  There was plenty of merchandise and staffers were restocking and replenishing when they saw racks dwindle.  Sale ends this Sunday.

Where/When: 93 Mercer St., nr Spring St.; August 5 to 8; Th (2–7), F–S (10–7), Su (10–3).

  • Wow, doesn’t sound like there were many bags available at all! Which is probably the only reason I’d go. I walked by on Tuesday, and watched them unload a truck full of merch. The clothing I saw was mostly the athletic inspired stuff, and didn’t really catch my interest. (My post about it w/ a photo: http://thegreyestghost.wordpress.com/2010/08/04/alexander-wang-sample-sale-starting-tomorrow/)

I really need to thank the commenter AJ, when I woke up this morning and saw she’d gotten into the sale I booked it over. It was 10am so no line to pay or get in. It was busy but not nearly as crowded as I imagine it is right now. I didn’t see anything left for $ 10 samples, and the $25 stuff was dregs too, but lots of good $50 stuff left- I picked up two pieces. The flyer said cash only unless you spend at least $200 but I paid for mine with a card. Cannot imagine any fan of the brand walking out empty-handed, it was epic. Good luck!

  • Know it’s early to be asking, but any idea if they will discount as the sale progresses? That would make missing out today that much easier to bear…

    • Esse – it depends on how much merchandise they have and how much is sold. If they have tons leftover before the weekend, then my guess would be they would be offering further discounts.

I wish I knew they had an early opening this morning. I went at lunchtime around too and there was a historic line. It reminded me of the iphone 4 launch. Made Tory Burch lines look like a job. I didn’t stand on that line as I don’t lines (lol) but I will try again tomorrow morning and see if I get in.

Finally made it to AW around noon today. There were no lines at all but lots of rude women who act as if they are in the jungle. One woman went as far as to grab a sportsbra out of my hand while we were both in the boxes. I wanted to ask her why did she need a sportsbra for since she has no boobs but getting into a fight at such an awesome sample sale is a no-no. Ended up leaving with five fabulous AW items. I’m definately a fan now. I spent less than $200.00 (not bad). I think I’m done with sample sales for now until Barney’s b/c I can’t take anymore of these sales (well my poor debit card is the one that can’t take it).

Wang sale is always marked down (usually half) on the last day.

I decided to go back for more this morning. Got there at 9:50 and there was already a line to spring street. The place was significantly cleaned out, but still lots of good stuff to be had at 50% off. t by Alexander Wang is all $20. The best thing to do is get there and stand by the girls trying items on and snatch up their unwanted items from the boxes. I was able to find two t by Alexander Wang items, a romper and shorts!
