Summer is here and for bargain hunters that means end-of-season sale… Larry Label Whore checked out the selection at Barneys and Bergdorf Goodman. Here’s his review:

“I first went into Barneys where this year they were doing something that I haven’t seen in all of the years I’ve shopped there. Instead of doing a final markdown of 70% or 75% off they decided to do an extra 25% off after giving you 60% off of the retail price. This adds up to about 70% off in the end, but I guess they think giving customers an extra 25% off sounds better.

Going through each floor I was disappointed because there was a lot less of a selection than in previous years. Not that much for Givenchy, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Prada, Burberry, Saint Laurent, etc… And the stuff they did have was mostly the big craze in the fashion world today: street-wear. I’m not a big street-wear fan, but they had a lot of Vetements, Balmain, and some Lanvin. Virgil Abloh’s Off-White was totally gone, which isn’t surprising since it’s the hottest brand of the moment. Though, you can find a lot of their pieces on sale on the Barney’s website.

I really went in for Thom Browne and his last collection for Moncler Gamme Bleu. I’m a huge fan of his, but there weren’t that many pieces left. I ended up getting a Thom Browne long-sleeve buffalo check shirt and a Moncler Gamme Bleu polo for 70% off each. The big steal of the trip was the Moncler wool scarves for 60% off retail (no extra discount on accessories). One was down to $119 and two of them were down to $169 each. If I didn’t have my cashmere scarves I would’ve snapped these up in a second. Surprisingly, no bags on sale and just one wallet – an intrecciato from Bottega Veneta. Last sale they had Christian Louboutin bags and wallets, but not this time.

Next, Bergdorf’s was at up to 60% off retail. They usually go to 70% or 75% off the last week of June so expect the final markdown soon. Usually they go to their final markdown before Barney’s, but I guess Barney’s beat them to it. I think their selection was definitely better than Barney’s, especially for Moncler and Moncler Gamme Bleu. They had the usual suspects like Givenchy, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Thom Browne, Alexander McQueen, etc… I saw some great Moncler Gamme Bleu items that Barney’s didn’t have, but I’m going to take the chance and wait for their final markdown. Very small amount of wallets and I only spotted an Off-White bag.

I didn’t get to Saks Fifth Avenue this time, but they are at 60% off retail now and will probably go to 70% off this coming week or next week. Their shoe selection is the best and have a better variety of lower-end brands like Polo Ralph Lauren and Theory. Their clothes selection is also better than the others, but it’s because they take longer to markdown their items. They also have Ferragamo and Fendi pieces I don’t see at the other stores. Having said that, Bloomingdale’s is still the best place to go. I am there all the time for Burberry and Ferragamo. They have sales all the time and the discounts are unbeatable. I can’t say enough about how great Bloomingdale’s is (no, I’m not on their payroll).

The end-of-season sales are always worth checking out even though this time the selection wasn’t that great. I think it was probably due to the better weather because the winter end-of-season sale always kills it with its selection. Let us know if you go and if you find any great items.
