Feminine Frocks at the Alex & Trixie Sample Sale

Artsy Anna ventured into the Alex & Trixie sample sale in Midtown today where silk dresses and skirts are up to 80 percent off. Here’s what she reports:

Staffers couldn’t be more accommodating at this girlie pink paradise.  Can’t find your size?  They’ll check to see if they have it in the back.   Items run $15 to $60 for past season tops, mini-dresses, belts, and scarves.  The best deals and prices are on the vintage  rack.  It’s hard to justify a wool winter dress a few sizes too large on a 95 degree day like today but not when it’s perfect condition Oscar de la Renta for $10, how can you resist?

Short silk dresses that were $275 are now $50, silk tops are $40 (were $220), and silk skirts are $30 (were $142).

Where/When:  265 W. 37th St., nr. Eighth Ave., eleventh fl.; Through 9/2. T–Th (10–7).

Update: Barneys Warehouse Sale Continues to Slash Prices

Yesterday, organizers of the Barneys Warehouse Sale continued with its price slashing.  This time offering an additional 25 percent off on more men’s items such as designer and casual sportswear as well as sneakers.  They’ve also upped the discount to an additional 50 percent off on women’s designer goods (with WHSE stamp) and shoes (with BLUE stamp). A staffer mentioned that there were still plenty of merchandise to put out, saying:  “… so much stuff from the California sales are still arriving by plane.”

Earlier this week, a long rack was set up in the women’s section for damaged goods.  You’ll find all sorts of clothing hanging on this rack with holes, rips, missing buttons, etc.  Have at it if you don’t mind the damage.  Although, I thought that some of the prices for these damaged goods were a bit steep considering… I spotted a couple of cashmere sweaters (with holes) going for $179.  Sale continues through the Labor Day Weekend.

A So-So Sample Sale at Sophomore

The Sophomore sample sale kicked off this afternoon in Nolita.  Artsy Anna who checked out the NYC based brand’s offerings wasn’t completely sold on the goods.  Here’s her report:

A few months ago New York mini-chain Purdy Girl hosted a “sample sale” for spring merch by Francis.  Similarly, cutesy Mulberry Street boutique Court has devoted the majority of their tiny space to spring and summer stock from contemporary sportswear line,  Sophomore.  All prices are as marked.  Scoopneck solid and graphic tees are $20-36 down from $50 and up.  Unstructured knot blazers are $60-87.  Sundresses, tunics, and cover-ups are $20-150.  There’s not much to go around but at these medium sized discounts  there weren’t tons of other shoppers.  If you’re a Sophomore fanatic,  you’ll enjoy this sale.  My suggestion?  Skip this sale and head up a few blocks to check out the amazing vintage finds on the sale racks at Zachary’s Smile. Tons of cute end of summer frocks are $20-50!

Update: Barneys Warehouse Sale Offers Further Discounts

Barneys Warehouse Sale
began offering further discounts Monday.  I popped in last night to see what was left after the weekend.  It appears they’ve added more high-end RTW designer goods (a long rack in the middle of the main women’s floor has now been set aside for designers such as Lanvin and Stella McCartney).  An additional 25 percent off designer items stamped with a”Red Star.”  As with previous sales, look for the red stamp on the tag to get the discount.  Sale organizers are also giving an additional 35 percent off WHSE stamped items on designer clothing and shoes with a “Blue” stamp.  But good luck finding any blue stamps on shoes.  I spent some time looking for the rare stamp and only found a few not-so-great CO-OP sandals.  As for menswear, take an additional 25 percent off men’s casual pants and white tag casual jackets.  There will certainly be further discounts – when they start slashing further depends on how much merchandise they sell.

Deals on Frilly Frocks at the Temperley London Sample Sale

While many of you may be focused on the Barneys Warehouse Sale, there’s other game in town.  One of them is Temperley London’s sample sale being held this weekend.  It opens to the public on Friday.  I was able to check out the goods Thursday for the preview sale where past season merchandise and a selection of press samples are marked down 70 percent off.

The sample sale is off to the side behind curtains.  Once inside, you’ll find racks of frocks organized by size.  There are a number of samples here (about three racks) where mostly dresses are on offer for around $300 or less.  These are samples so sizes are smalls and mediums.  Sample bins carrying knits and accessories start at $50.  As for the other merchandise, you’ll find signature Temperley dresses ($200 to $400), tops & tunics (some under $150).  Handbags are $200 to $400 for large bags.  There are also a few hats – one British bowler with a fur ball is now $115.

VIDEO: Barneys Warehouse Sale – Day 1

The Barneys Warehouse Sale is undeniably one of the biggest sales in New York City.  It’s always mobbed, especially on the first day.  This season was no different as Racked reported this morning while line blogging with the early birds standing in line an hour before the doors opened.  I showed up before 10am to find no line.  However, the scene inside was madness.  No surprise that the women’s shoe section was crowded.

Women shoes can be found in the same place as usual right when you walk in.  This time, sale organizers are offering an additional 25 percent off items with the “BLUE” stamp.  I spotted a few shoes with the blue stamp, including a Marc Jacobs pump that was already on sale for under $150.  I was told that those items are from previous seasons which is why there’s an extra discount.  As for the selection in footwear, as usual plenty of designer sandals and heels with a smattering of boots.  I spotted a pair of Balenciaga super high heeled gladiators for $500 (my friend picked up the same pair during last winter’s sale for $150).  I also saw a few Lanvin pumps from two seasons ago going for $400.  There’s a few Loub flat sandals, wedges and heels, Lanvin cut-out slingbacks, Prada wedges, sandals and heels, Chloe, Costume National, Pierre Hardy, Rochas, Robert Clergerie, Stella McCartney, and more.  There’s a lot of product and you have to spend the time to really look.

Outsider Gets into the Stella McCartney Friends & Family Sale

A tipster who managed to get into the Stella McCartney friends and family sale in Midtown just sent us some photos.  She wasn’t on the list but she had no problems getting in.  She tells us it’s a great sale with a lot of loot to be had.  Plus, the sales staff are apparently friendly and helpful (thanks to Ashley who let her take these pictures!)  Feast your eyes on the photos of handbags, footwear, jeans, belts and more.  Our tipster reports deals of 50 to 80 percent off… all footwear is under $200 (tons of size 37s and 36s).  A strappy heel (were originally $795) are now $160.  She also reports many of the handbags are under $200.  But she didn’t like the bag choices, describing them as being “too plasticky.”  Jeans are $50.  Sale ends today (August 18th) at 8pm.
