Damaged Goods at the Theory Sample Sale

Clothingline in Midtown is hosting a Theory sample sale this week selling off women’s and men’s actual samples and what sale organizers describe as “slight irregulars.” The headline says it all – damaged goods.  Almost every garment I picked up had a hole, rip, torn, or thread pull on it.

If you can live with a rip here or a hole there, then you’ll find some bargains.  But be prepared to spend time looking through the racks, some of the garments are in pretty bad shape.  Separates start at $15 for tees, $35 for blouses, skirts and knits including sweaters.  Dresses and pants are tagged at $45.  Blazers, sport jackets and outerwear at $60.  Leather jackets at $99 (I actually spotted a few nice men’s pieces in good condition).  For women, there was an abundance of blazers, pants, cashmere sweaters, dresses and more in a range of sizes – but mostly smalls and mediums.  For men, lots of shirts, jackets and pants.

The sales people are gruff as usual.  There is a dressing room set up so you can see if items fit properly since all sales are final.

Where/When:  Clothingline 261 W. 36th Street (b/w 7th and 8th Avenue), 2nd Floor.

I missed out on leather cargo leggings at the last Theory Sample Sale. There were tons of them but i didn’t grab a pair– and i’m still thinking about them! Any chance you saw a pair?

  • I didn’t see any leather leggings. There wasn’t much leather for women when I stopped in late yesterday. I know how you feel. I missed out on the $50 leather leggings that Jodi Arnold was offering at her sale last week… Those were really cute.

Posted this in the Bally post, but thought i’d share it here too – apparently some of the bags at the bally sample sale are only $50 now. picked up two!!!

I saw a few pairs of mixed-leather (i.e. with jersey) leggings in sizes 2 and 4, though the 2′s were both terribly damaged (crotch seams completely ripped out).

I also saw one pair of undamaged, snakeskin-patterned leather leggings in P (XS), and almost bought them because I thought they would be $45. However they turned out to be $99, and since they fit me really poorly in the crotch and I already own leather leggings I passed.

I actually thought the sale was pretty good — the samples (in the back) were undamaged for the most part. The sample sweaters definitely had the best selection, ended up buying two for only $35 each.

  • Thanks for the update on the Theory goods…I’m glad you were able to find some undamaged goods.

Agreed… all the stuff in the back are samples and are undamaged. A lot of sorting to do but I got a great jacket for $60
