I had planned to check out the Bally sale in Midtown over the weekend. But I couldn’t make it there in time so I stopped in on Monday instead when sale organizers began offering further reductions (30 to 40 percent off the sale price, which was already at 75 percent off retail). For women: flats, sandals and pumps are now tagged at $95; booties are $125; boots at $195. The selection was pretty much picked over. Only a handful of boots and booties were up for grabs. What was left was a wide selection of sandals and flats. The Sanda sandal was available in all sorts of colors and sizes for $60. For men: boots, dress loafers and moccasins are now $150; dress lace ups are $175; sneakers at $75 and slippers at $50. Also on sale – clothing, handbags and other accessories.
Where/When: Soiffer Haskin 317 W. 33rd St. nr. Eight Avenue. Thru February 24th 23rd Tues (9-6:30p), Wed (9-5p).
Sally, did you notice if they had any wallets? If so, what the prices were? (and for bags?) Thanks!!
Madelaine – they had two or three women’s wallets – under $100. Not fabulous. As for bags, a large tote patent leather blue for $250 and a brown leather medium bag with multi-color fabric shoulder strap for $200… They did have the small hobo (seen in the video) in a peachy color… for around $150. The handbag choices were very lacking!!! Not great.
Aughh! The irony. When I wasn’t working I had plenty of time for samle sales. Now that I started working this week, I have income and no time to get to a sample sale. 5pm tomorrow?? Really! I would imagine the profit of staying open an extra hour or two for 9 to 5ers would offset any labor cost.
Will try to stop by today as would love to see sandals.
Deme – congrats on the new job! The Bally sale had some great sandals… strappy heels and flats starting at $60, most were $95. Let us know if you end up stopping by and getting anything.
Hi Sally: Because of your tip, I stopped by and found 3 shirts for $45 or $35. In general though I agree with the other comments–the Bally shop at Woodbury has a much better selection in terms of bags, shoes, and clothes. Of course, everything is more expensive and you have to get there but I found this sale to be for people who need work clothes and work in a conservative environment.
Barneyshopper – I’m glad you found something…
Sally, you may have convinced me that not all Soiffer Haskin sales are overpriced and snooty.
First I swung by Barney’s. Nothing is more than 40% off. Suits and outerwear NO discount, most of the rest including designer is 20-30%. Some of what was 20% off (like sneakers, casual pants, blue-tag, and home) are now 40% off. Overflowing with merchandise everywhere. I’ve never seen it so stuffed to the gills. Makes sense because the discounts have been trifling.
Bally surprised me. Yes, mostly old conservative stuff, but enough to keep a younger person interested. They insisted on charging $150 for a shoe whose store price tag was $89, which is really annoying. Still, with the buy-3-get-20%-off deal, I got 3 pairs of shoes/boots and a belt for under $400, which is twice as much as I’ve spent at Barney’s so far.
Good for you, Mr. Barney… I’m glad you found a few bargains at the Bally sale. BTW – thank you for your insightful comments. With the abundance of merchandise still left at Barneys, I’m expecting further discounts this weekend. I’ll try to pop in again later this week.
I just got an email that they’ve added more markdowns for the final day tomorrow.
Mr. Barney – thanks for the tip.. I just got the email from Soiffer Haskin… apparently, the merchandise is now up to 90% off. I may have to stop by tomorrow morning. I’ll let you guys know if I do.
apparently some of the bags are only $50 now. picked up two!!!
sally, is the sale over on thursday feb. 25th or was it over yesterday wed. february 24th? You have it listed as thursday feb, 24th and thats the wrong date
Marc – Thanks for the correction. The sale ended Wednesday…. I’ll make the change on the post.
